8. The Roll Up
Pilates Principles – Belt Engagement, slow and controlled, breathe in to prepare and breathe out as you roll up.
Teaching Points – Breath is important as is your belt engagement, also squeeze your legs together drawing up knee caps. Breathe in to prepare and as you breathe out slowly lift your upper torso off the floor using your arms in front.
Watch out Points – Using momentum to get yourself up, in other words moving way too fast, not using breath or belt, allowing the legs to come off the floor as you try to come up.
9. Thread the Needle
Pilates Principles – Breath, Slow and Controlled movement and concentration
Teaching Points – Lift out of the shoulders and create length in the neck (no slumping), use grace and move in a slow and controlled manner, concentrate on how your body feels and use the out breath to calm the body as you can take the stretch that little further.
Watch Out Points – Slumping in the shoulder, no length in the arms so not creating much of a stretch, moving too fast and not using the breath correctly.
