A SAMPLE OF 10 TRADITIONAL PILATES EXERCISES
- APPLYING PILATES PRINCIPLES
- TEACHING POINTS
- WATCH OUT POINTS
Each Pilates exercise has a generic name and level of intensity. You will receive a comprehensive list of colour coded icons of each exercise to make easy reference and recognition.
As a FFP Instructor you will need to give teaching points, modifications (where needed), watch-out points and some of the Pilates Principles throughout the class.
Besides the Pilates Principles it is good to use VISUALS such as imagine your hip bones are like headlights, imagine there is an iron rod running down your back, imagine you are balancing glasses on your back. Any visuals like this help the participants correct their form as very often you will not be able to physically correct everybody and there is a possibility that there may not be any mirrors where you are teaching the class.
Here are 10 basic Pilates exercises with 3 Pilates principles, 3 teaching points and 3 watch out points.
1. One Leg Stretch
Pilates Principles – Belt engaged, hips stabilised, breathe in to prepare breath out on the effort.
Teaching points – slow and controlled, lengthen through the arms and legs keeping them straight, breathe into prepare breathe out on the move.
Watch out Points – Back arching (not in neutral) rib cage risen upwards (belt off), hips dipping side to side (hips not stabilised)
